Striking PKC school staff were today set to hold a rally in Perth in a bid to persuade COSLA and the Scottish Government to get around the table for talks.

UNISON Perth and Kinross branch secretary Stuart Hope said this week: “John Swinney’s refusal to even talk to strikers in his constituency, despite many attempts, has been bitterly disappointing. In a new letter to UNISON Mr Swinney urged them to join with the GMB and Unite and accept the current pay offer, adding that the Scottish Government had already taken “extraordinary decisions” to allocate an extra £77.5 million to support Local Government pay – which he said was the “absolute limit”.

“Alongside prioritising the lowest paid, this offer is also better than the offer made to Local Government workers across the rest of the UK, and as such, delivers what Unison, GMB and Unite jointly asked for from councils earlier in the year.
