Taymount Woods near Stanley is potentially going to be bought by West Stormont Woodland Group who want it for public enjoyment and conservation.
A Perthshire community group hoping to buy a recreational woodland is awaiting a decision on the proposed purchase this week.
West Stormont Woodland Group was formed to bring Taymount and Five Mile Woods into community ownership under the Forestry and Land Scotland Community Asset Transfer Scheme . “We are very hopeful we will be able to purchase the woodland and begin much needed action for nature recovery and develop our community benefit programmes and green enterprises.”
Its purchase was the first community-led land buy-out in Perthshire. In the 22 years since Dun Coillich was community owned, it has been reforested with thousands of native trees to become a vibrant nature reserve, a place for school visits and a valuable location for youth training in rural skills.
