Northwest Naturals issues voluntary recall for 'Turkey Recipe' raw frozen pet food after a cat fatality linked to bird flu contamination. The Oregon Department of Agriculture investigates the incident and urges pet owners to watch for symptoms of bird flu in their animals.

A popular pet food brand, Northwest Naturals, has issued a voluntary recall of its 'Turkey Recipe' raw frozen pet food after a cat tragically died from consuming the product contaminated with bird flu. The food in question has a whopping 98% turkey content including meat, organs, and bones, and was available across several US states like Washington, Arizona, Rhode Island, Georgia, Maryland, as well as in Canada and through select resellers here in the UK.

Pet owners are urged to be vigilant for symptoms of bird flu in their pets, which can present as fever, lethargy, appetite loss, gastrointestinal distress, and even seizures. There have been no reports of human infection related to this outbreak so far. Consumers should look out for 2lb plastic bags marked with the 'best if used by' dates of 05/21/26 and 06/23/2026. Pet owners who have bought this product are being urged to dispose of it immediately and contact the place of purchase for a full refund. The Oregon Department of Agriculture issued a lengthy press release on Friday, December 27 which included a stern warning about consuming raw meat. It said: 'This case reminds us that feeding raw meat products to pets or consuming them yourself can lead to severe illness. Raw meat may contain harmful pathogens, including Salmonella, Listeria,
