Eight suspected human trafficking victims who were supposed to enter Malaysia were recently rescued in Tawi-Tawi province, the Philippine Navy said. | JEMendozaINQ

Authorities rescued the victims — four males and four females — in MV Trisha Kerstin II at the Port of Bongao last February 18.The victims from Zamboanga City traveled to Tawi-Tawi, then attempted to proceed to Sandakan, Sabah, without proper documentation from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration.

They were then transported to the Tawi-Tawi Maritime Police Station for documentation and profiling. They were turned over to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Development Office in Bongao for counseling and other legal processing.—
