Twelve years of loyal service at Manchester United came to a harrowing end for Phil Jones, who was reduced to tears when he realised his time as a Red Devil was up
After more than a decade at Manchester United, Phil Jones couldn't help but cry when he realised his Old Trafford career was over.
Speaking on the High Performance Podcast, Jones detailed how he went into the 2022/23 pre-season fully intending to be a part of Ten Hag's plans. The defender even changed his summer holiday plans numerous times so that he'd have the facilities to train and recover properly, but his hopes were derailed almost instantly after joining up with the rest of the squad.
Jones detailed how he became more proficient using his left foot, but it wasn't long before he told the physios: "This is my last training session." It was another year before his retirement was made official, and Jones spent the whole 2022/23 campaign on United's books, but he was true to his word in that he didn't participate in another session with the squad.
