Philippine Secretary of National Defence Gilberto Teodoro Jr has warned of China's 'attempt to redefine international law' as it continues its aggression in the South China Sea.
Philippine National Defence Secretary condemns China’s ‘unlawful attempt to redefine international law’ as tensions mount in South China Sea
President of the Philippines Ferdinand Marcos Jr accused China of ongoing “harassment and intimidation” of Philippine vessels as he urged ASEAN members to speed up negotiations on a Code of Conduct for the South China Sea. Speaking to Sky News host Erin Molan on Friday night, Mr Teodoro said China was showing an attempt"to redefine international law by unilateral action”.
“And I believe it's an attempt to redraw or redefine international law by unilateral action just because they have the muscle to do so now.” “What we are trying to do really is to use the tools within our toolbox in order to prevent it from getting worse,” he said. “This unlawful attempt to redefine international law is most detrimental to smaller countries who need their EEZ in order to sustain their populations for the future and for their resilience too.
