Police are in attendance near Manchester Piccadilly
following reports of a suspicious package. Police are in attendance at Piccadilly Gate, on Store Street, this afternoon .Emergency services have been approached for further information this afternoon. A reporter is on their way to the scene.
The building sits to the east of Piccadilly railway station, near to the Piccadilly Village flats and the Ashton Canal, on Store Street between theA police officer here at the scene has told me certain parts of the building are currently ‘restricted’ but people with access to the building are allowed in and outA hazardous material van is here at the scene on Store Street parked behind the one remaining fire engineThe M.E.N.
Piccadilly Gate is home to civil servants working across a number of different Government departments. It was earmarked for demolition as part of plans for the arrival of HS2 in Manchester, before the planned railway north of Birmingham was scrapped.
