The head of one of the state’s leading agencies for tackling homelessness says using the federal government’s Pinkenba quarantine centre is not the answer to homelessness in Brisbane.

“The tragedy of that facility is that it was designed to be multipurpose. When it was built, it was built for a specific purpose, and that was quarantine.” “I’ve been to Pinkenba. I’ve toured the facility. I know that with some modifications, it can be quickly converted to crisis accommodation,” he said.

“This is a federally owned facility, so it’s obviously not something that the state government controls,” she said. “But we’ll continue to look at all options and work with other levels of government.”
