This is the second time a new Alzheimer's treatment has been rejected by the health spending watchdog in a matter of months.
A new pioneering Alzheimer's drug has been rejected for widespread use in the NHS in England. The announcement comes as the UK's medicines regulator said that donanemab could be licenced for use in the UK. However, the health spending watchdog, the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence , said that it 'does not currently demonstrate value for the NHS'. It is the second time a new Alzheimer's treatment has been rejected by NICE in a matter of months.
' In August, the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency said that lecanemab was efficient in slowing down Alzheimer's and made it the first drug of its kind to be licensed for use in Great Britain. However, NICE similarly said that lecanemab would not be rolled out across the NHS because the benefits are 'just too small to justify the significant cost'.
