It has been empty for 20 years
Ilkeston residents have shared their relief after it was announced a boarded-up shop in the town is to undergo urgent repairs. The Albion building at 100 to 112 Bath Street has stood empty for 20 years, having previously been home to TV and electrical store Wigfalls.
Lisa Martin, 52, a florist in Ilkeston said: "Bricks were falling off the building. I think it will be a big job to save that building."It would be nice to see them do something with it. It seems nobody has been interested in it. I'm hoping something gets done or it will fall down. "It's caused us no end of problems, we had wet rot in the hall. Having the property empty has caused a lot of anti-social behaviour."
The council had hoped to make a compulsory purchase as part of its project to regenerate the borough’s town centres. Erewash made a bid for levelling up money but was turned down by the Government in January.
