PlatinumGames has removed a page listing past game releases from its website, sparking controversy and disappointment among fans and former employees. The deleted page included information about cancelled projects like Project GG, a rumored Ultraman-inspired game.
The PlatinumGames website has undergone a puzzling alteration: a page that previously displayed the studio's game releases has been abruptly removed, taking with it some of the last vestiges of information regarding the Ultraman -inspired Project GG. According to a former PlatinumGames employee, the studio's website used to feature a 'Games' section listing 22 of its releases spanning back to its founding in 2006. However, attempting to access that same URL now redirects users to the homepage.
Among the 14 games that vanished from the website was Babylon's Fall, the Square Enix-published live-service RPG that met a swift demise in 2022. Project GG, on the other hand, was intended to be Platinum's inaugural venture into self-publishing. The trailer, showcasing a character undergoing an Ultraman-esque transformation to combat a rampaging kaiju, proclaimed the game as the 'powerful climax to the Hideki Kamiya hero trilogy,' continuing the lineage of Kamiya's previous work on Viewtiful Joe and The Wonderful 101. However, after Kamiya's departure from PlatinumGames, Project GG seemingly fell into obscurity. When questioned on X (formerly Twitter) about the fate of Project GG shortly after his exit, Kamiya offered no concrete details, leaving the project's status shrouded in ambiguity. The only apparent evidence of Project GG's existence remaining are the surviving teaser trailer on Platinum's YouTube account and the faint echoes of its announcement in online archives. This sudden erasure of past games from the PlatinumGames website has sparked dismay among fans and industry observers alike. Former employee Kellams expressed his disappointment, stating, 'PlatinumGames erasing its history on its website is extremely regrettable. I wonder if they pulled the carpet tiles out of the lobby, too. As someone proud of working on those games, I feel deeply insulted by this.
