NRL players have boycotted the launch of the league’s multicultural round over the ongoing pay dispute, as head office decided not to proceed with a Pride Round this year.

The issue threatened to be a divisive one after seven Manly players refused to wear the club’s rainbow “Everyone in League” jersey last year.“We are dealing with the themed rounds as we go through the season,” he said. “We’re not expecting to make any changes. Our focus now is on Multicultural Round, and you will see the other rounds unfold as we move through the season.

“These are incidents we don’t want to see. One is one too many. But they don’t happen often in our sport because of the nature of our sport, because of the nature of how inclusive we are. And it’s authentic and it’s genuine and you feel it at grassroots level on a Saturday morning through to the stands at NRL and NRLW games.”
