A police motorbike pursuit of a 13-year-old e-bike rider in north Manchester ended in a crash, resulting in the teenager being hospitalized. The incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and GMP's Professional Standards Directorate.
A pursuit which ended in a 13-year-old boy being taken to hospital has been referred to the police watchdog. An officer on a motorbike chased the youth, who was riding an e-bike, through north Manchester on Friday afternoon .
Footage seen by the Manchester Evening News showed an e-bike being ridden on a pavement in Moston, with a Greater Manchester Police motorbike turning off a roundabout as it followed the teenager. The pursuit ended in a crash on Shackliffe Road, near Moston Lane, at around 4.30pm. Shackliffe Road was cordoned off following the collision, with police at the scene and an e-bike left on the ground. The teenager was taken to hospital for treatment.
He was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and failure to stop, but was later de-arrested, GMP confirmed earlier today. The teenager is expected to attend a voluntary interview at a police station. GMP has now confirmed the incident has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct . A referral was also made to GMP's Professional Standards Directorate, the force said on Friday.
