The dad of one of the victims described her actions as 'abhorrent'
The chief constable of Nottinghamshire Police is facing new questions over her treatment of the families of the Nottingham attacks victims. An ongoing police watchdog investigation has been expanded to look at the actions of Kate Meynell after a fresh complaint was made.
The scope of the investigation has now been widened to examine the actions of Ms Meynell, who victims' families say failed to inform them their cases were being used in action against Nottinghamshire Live, who they fully supported. Dr Sanjoy Kumar, dad of 19-year-old Grace who was killed by Calocane, said he made the complaint after being horrified to learn of the case.
"When something has happened that has gone wrong, the duty of candour of a police officer is held at the highest. It's one of the absolute founding stones of being a senior officer. A spokesperson for the IOPC said: “We can confirm that we are investigating a new complaint concerning the Chief Constable of Nottinghamshire Police. This relates to the Chief Constable’s alleged involvement in a complaint to the Independent Press Standards Organisation about the Nottingham Post coverage of a non-reportable press briefing held in February . It follows a referral to us from the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire.
