Labour MPs described the move as “chilling”, as they argued that the power to protest was a “fundamental right of any functioning democracy”.
Kate Osborne, the Labour MP for Jarrow in South Tyneside, said the actions by the Met Police “should worry us all”, adding: “A fundamental right of any functioning democracy is the right to protest”. “Protest is lawful and it can be disruptive. We have policed numerous protests without intervention in the build-up to the Coronation, and during it.
