Angela Kandola will earn a pro-rata salary of over £60,000 for serving as Nottinghamshire's deputy police and crime commissioner

Nottinghamshire 's new deputy police and crime commissioner says she feels "no pressure" going into her job despite the controversy over her £60,000 appointment. Not all police and crime commissioners choose to have a paid deputy but Gary Godden, elected as Nottinghamshire 's PCC in May, says having one represents "value for money".

Mr Godden announced soon after winning the PCC election that he wanted the role back, a move that was criticised by some as "self-serving". An August meeting was originally set to approve the appointment of Councillor Angela Kandola, who also sits on Nottingham City Council. Asked how she would measure her success in the role, Councillor Kandola said: "We are going to have outcomes and we are going to have reports on everything. We are going to report back to the panel and they will get updates from us on the successes." Mr Godden said he could not comment specifically on what the further checks were that he had to carry out on Councillor Kandola.

"I see it as value for money for Nottinghamshire. It's really important that the office of police and crime commissioner is represented in all areas of Nottinghamshire.
