The force has launched an investigation and issued an urgent warning to anyone who may be using illegal drugs in the area to be aware of a potentially lethal batch in circulation. It did not specify what type of drugs the batch was. “We have launched an investigation after two men and a woman were all confirmed as deceased in the South Shields area. While enquiries are at a very early stage, we believe all three deaths could be potentially linked to the same drugs batch.
“While it remains unconfirmed at this stage, we are exploring the possibility that all three deaths are linked to drugs and possibly the same batch which has led to fatal medical episodes,” she added.
