Have you been affected by the M62 FuelPrices protest this morning?
Drivers have been told to avoid a service station on the M62 near Pontefract as they negotiate with organisers of the planned fuel protest.
A “go slow” protest had been planned for this morning with demonstrators meeting at Ferrybridge service at 6am. It comes as the cost of fuel continues to rise across the country. According to West Yorkshire Police a “small group” of people have attended the protest and they are now trying to negotiate a “safe” way to protest.Online posts show that officers have blocked off the exit and have placed a stinger to stop protestors from leaving the services.A spokesperson for the force states they are negotiating with the group about ways to facilitate a “safe” protest.
They said: “West Yorkshire Police is negotiating with a small group of fuel price protestors at Ferrybridge motorway services regarding ways in which a peaceful, safe and lawful demonstration can be facilitated.“It is clear deliberate disruption of the network will inconvenience huge numbers of people, draw police resources away from other important work and potentially delay the response times of all emergency services.
“There is currently no disruption to the motorway network in the rush hour period, but we would advise drivers to avoid Ferrybridge services.”
