Sky News understands Liz Truss intends to appoint Grant Shapps as the new Home Secretary. In her resignation letter, Suella Braverman confirms that she has resigned after a"technical infringement of the rules" by using her personal email to send an official document. "The business of government relies upon people accepting responsibility for their mistakes," she wrote.
In his latest live update, Sam said: “Here is what I understand happened. There was an incident, I don’t know what the incident was, but the incident involved Suella Braverman sharing secure information that she shouldn’t do on a private phone, I understand that is one of two reasons she has gone. I don’t have the second one."
Responding to the reports that Suella Braverman is no longer home secretary, Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesperson, Alistair Carmichael said:"This is a government in chaos. In 1972, Ted Heath's government declared the second reading of the European Communities Bill to be a confidence matter, securing passage of the law that took the UK into what became the EU.
On 8 May, 1940, in an adjournment debate on the conduct of World War II, the government was harshly criticised for military failures in the Nazi invasion of Norway and its overall conduct of the war. The government won but its massively-reduced majority persuaded Neville Chamberlain that his position was untenable and he resigned a few days later, paving the way for Winston Churchill.
