Sadie was fined by the NHS even though she'd miscarried
Sadie Hawkes, 33, lost her baby before she had received the maternity exemption certificate that would entitle her to free prescriptions through the duration of her pregnancy.
Now Sadie is pushing a petition to change the rules so that certificates can be backdated to the beginning of a pregnancy. Two weeks earlier, Sadie had an appointment with her local pharmacist who prescribed her allergy tablets on the grounds that she was pregnant. But just before her appointment, she miscarried, and texted her midwife to inform she wouldn't be attending.
Sadie is outraged at how she's been treated, and is promoting a petition to change the rules so that certificates can be backdated to the beginning of a pregnancy.
