Staff Reports Zion Chapel pitcher Sydney Boothe escaped a nobody out, bases-load jam in the bottom of the seventh inning to preserve a 2-1 Zion Chapel win over G.W. Long in Tuesday high school softball action in Skipperville.

Ella Grace Kelley, Kelsey Ellenburg and Tylaya Lingo all had three hits each for Wicksburg with Ellenburg driving in two runs and Kelley one run. Olivia Reynolds had two hits and three runs batted in and Ellie Cox had two hits with one RBI. Lana Carpenter and Anslie Ellenburg both added a hit and an RBI.

Jada Newman was the winning pitcher, working 5 1/3 innings and allowing only four runs, three earned, and three hits, while striking out two and walking five. Brantlee McCarthy recorded the last two outs.Dale County 8, Providence Christian 6: Providence Christian made a surge late, but it wasn’t enough as Dale County held on for an 8-6 win.

Maddie Norris and Ella Houston led Providence Christian. Norris had three hits and two runs batted in and Houston had two hits and three runs batted in. Both players hit a homer with Norris earning a solo shot and Houston a two-run blast. Addison Russ had two hits and Madilyn Walding had a hit and an RBI.

Torres threw a seven-inning, seven-hit shutout with three strikeouts and two walks. Ward had three singles and drove in four runs. Kiersten Lewis, Hayden Howell, Aubree Lamb and Ansley Adams all had two hits for Geneva with Howell driving in a run. Ally Henderson had an RBI triple and Torres added a run-scoring single.

Ashford 18, Headland 8: Ashford overcame a 7-2 Headland lead behind five runs in both the fourth and fifth innings and four in the sixth to earn the win. Slocomb 12, Cottonwood 3: Slocomb pulled away from a 3-3 tie with four runs in the bottom of the fourth and five in the sixth inning.
