Humans MCR provides food deliveries to people experiencing hardship in Greater Manchester. It's the perfect example of a community group which could be nominated for the Pride of Britain Fund.
Local heroes could land up to £2,500 to help them boost their communities, thanks to a new fund set up to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards.
It may also be a sports club, where volunteers give kids a safe space to play, or a youth group putting people on the path to a brighter future.Humans MCR is a food poverty charity providing meals and essential nutritious food across our region. The team works hard to ensure every person using their service is treated with dignity and respect.
“Using food banks in the state they were in felt like an undignified process where the client wasn’t at the heart of the decision-making process. We wanted to prove it could be done differently, with dignity at the heart of what we did. It was important to make sure people had agency, control and choice over the food they were being given. It’s why our world food section is as popular as it is. I was often given a product I didn't want, didn't like, and couldn't cook.
Charities like this are the perfect example of deserving recipients that could be nominated for the Pride of Britain Fund. The £100,000 giveaway is part of celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards, which are screened on ITV1 later in the autumn. A £30,000 grant from the Pride of Britain Fund helped his charity buy a mobile youth club to engage with young people in the places they hang out. The converted 25-seater bus is kitted out with games consoles, tablets and music technology.
