Aiyla Mota had both her legs and five fingers amputated after developing sepsis following a Strep A infection

Aiyla Mota was only three years old when she went into septic shock following what seemed like an ordinary childhood illness.

It was in March 2023 that Aiyla started to develop a sore throat. Mum, Eulanda Griffith, 27, grew concerned when Aiyla's symptoms worsened - so she rang 111 and was told to keep an eye out for a rash. Aiyla went into septic shock and was placed in an induced coma where she remained for three weeks. When she awoke, the doctors made the devastating decision to amputate both her legs and five fingers due to a cut-off blood supply.

Three months later Aiyla joined a mainstream school and according to mum Eulanda she is “her usual cheeky and sassy self”. Although she is still having regular rehab, physio and occupational therapy, she is thriving at school and loves gymnastics, horse riding, ice skating and bowling.
