Princess Anne visited Southmead Hospital in Bristol to express her gratitude to the staff who treated her after a fall from a horse in June. The 74-year-old royal has no memory of the incident, but praised the medical team for their swift response and exceptional care.

Princess Anne visited the Southmead Hospital in Bristol on Tuesday to thank the staff who cared for her following a fall from a horse in June. The 74-year-old royal, who was injured at her Gatcombe Park estate in Gloucestershire, has no memory of the event. An air ambulance and emergency services were dispatched to her home, and after receiving medical care , she was transported 30 miles to Southmead Hospital by road.

During her visit, Princess Anne met with staff members at various intensive care pods along the critical care corridor. She jokingly inquired about which horse might be responsible for her injuries, stating, 'I know if there was a perpetrator who managed to do that much damage, they're not letting on either.' She expressed her gratitude for the staff's care, remarking, 'Sadly, I don't have huge memories of being in here either. But whatever you did, it seemed to work... the recovery being relatively straightforward, thankfully. That isn't always true so I'm really grateful. 'I'm also grateful in a weird sort of way that I remember nothing because that has huge advantages - you can just carry on.'Princess Anne's fall resulted in her spending five nights in the hospital and being sidelined for three weeks of rehabilitation at home. Reflecting on the incident, she acknowledged the fragility of life, saying, 'It just reminds you, shows you - you never quite know, something (happens) and you might not recover.' She continued to express her appreciation for the healthcare professionals she encountered, highlighting the importance of their work.
