The two supermarkets have been affected by a nationwide product recall from the Food Standards Agency

A series of recalls have been announced at two major UK supermarkets, with one product potentially containing serious bacteria.

The Food Standards Agency has recalled McEnnedy Corn Dogs from Lidl due to the presence of Listeria monocytogenes being detected. The bacteria can result in flu-like symptoms such as high temperature, muscle aches, vomiting, and diarrhoea. However, the bacteria can cause more serious complications such as meningitis with vulnerable groups being at higher risk of infection such as those over 65 years of age, pregnant women, babies less than one month old, and those with weakened immune systems. Because of this Lidl is recalling all of the 530g corn dogs with the following best-before dates:Lidl has highlighted that no other McEnnedy products or BBDs in Lidl stores are affected by the recall.

The FSA regularly issued product recalls on food products in the cases where they should not have been sold in order to let consumers and local authorities remain aware of the problems associated with food. In rare cases, a Food Alert for Action is issued which allows local authorities to take action on behalf of consumers.

A food alert was issued for Lidl's McEnnedy Corn Dogs while an allergy alert was issued for Marks and Spencer's Plant Kitchen No Chicken and Chorizo sandwich.
