LGBTQ+ protesters are set to rally outside George Pell's funeral in Sydney on Thursday after winning a court battle over NSW Police who attempted to block the march.
NSW Police have reached an"agreeable outcome" with LGBTI+ activists who plan to rally outside George Pell's funeral on Thursday.
"We are pleased that negotiations with protest organisers have resulted in an agreeable outcome for both police and protesters," NSW Police wrote in a statement on Wednesday. Police urge anyone attending the funeral on Thursday to be"respectful" as thousands of mourners gather to farewell Pell. "Despite attempted negotiations with organisers, safety concerns associated with their proposed assembly cannot be adequately mitigated without amendments to the proposal," police wrote. "The NSW Police Force recognises and supports the rights of individuals and groups to exercise their rights of free speech and peaceful assembly, however, the first priority is always the safety of the wider community.", as a result of complications from routine hip surgery.
