We spoke to those behind a 'worrying' new report from the Committee on the Administration of Justice

The PSNI has been accused of "disproportionately policing" campaigners opposed to a Northern Ireland goldmine. The claim was made as the Committee on the Administration of Justice unveiled independent research at Queen's University's moot court on Tuesday.

She added: "While we are not able to independently verify the allegations our argument is that if they are verified, they are extremely concerning and raise serious questions around differential policing and the proportionality of criminal sanctions levied against the protectors." The Belfast human rights groups concluded that policing tactics alleged from the testimony of the protectors "do give cause for concern, in particular, the proportionality and differential nature of the policing response" in relation to those supporting the mine. As a result the CAJ has urged the Policing Board and Police Ombudsman to consider reviewing the policing of such environmental protests.

Marella Fyffe, chair of Save Our Sperrins, said what's in the report is "not news to us but it's lovely to see that all this information has been gathered together". "It's not just the Sperrins, this is around many of the border areas and also within NI itself because 25% of Northern Ireland has been designated for mineral licensing. Across the water in England it maybe less than 1%, Scotland 6%. Here a quarter of the land a quarter of the land has been effectively given away to all these global extractive corporations.
