Police say 'inexperienced drivers' are 'most vulnerable road users'

A driver who had only recently passed the R-plate restriction period was caught driving at 114 mph by police in Co Derry.

In Northern Ireland, drivers face a one-year period after they pass their test when they must display 'restricted driver plates' or R-plates and limit their speed to no more than 45 mph. The driver caught by police, in the Coleraine area of Co Derry, had only recently completed the one-year restricted period when they were clocked at 114 mph by PSNI interceptors.Police issued a warning on social media for inexperienced road users following the incident.

A spokesperson for PSNI Road Policing and Safety said: "Young, inexperienced drivers are our most vulnerable road users. Road Policing Interceptors from Maydown stopped this young driver over the weekend in the Coleraine area driving at 114 MPH."Join our Belfast Live breaking news service on WhatsApp Click this link or scan the QR code to receive breaking news and top stories from Belfast Live.
