The incident took place on Edinburgh Street off the Lisburn Road

A man has suffered puncture wounds following a serious assault in South Belfast. Police have appealedfor information following the incident which took place on Tuesday, March 12, at around 12.30pm on Edinburgh Street, just off the Lisburn Road.

Police say they are looking to speak with a man who may have witnessed the assault or saw a man who was wearing a dark coloured basball cap, scarf and dark coloured puffer type coat.A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police at Lisburn Road, Belfast are currently investigating a serious assault that occurred on Tuesday 12th March at approximately 0030 hours in the vicinity of Edinburgh Street.
