Prichard Water Board court-appointed receiver John Young, Jr. was on hand to answer questions about the Draft Master Plan -- which proposes turning over control and management to MAWSS to operate.
) - The ongoing saga over what to do with the broken Prichard Water & Sewer System continued Wednesday night in Chickasaw.
The Prichard Water & Sewer System is in this situation after years of mismanagement and lack of repairs. Young explained the Draft Master Plan comes after looking at more than 20 alternatives -- and feels MAWSS is the best path forward long-term. Young adds more than $400-million in repairs is needed over the next 20 years. While not everyone -- including Prichard Mayor Jimmie Gardner -- is on board with the MAWSS alternative. However, those we spoke to Wednesday night were for it.
“The information they presented was very informative and I think a lot of research has been done on it. I think they did a good job of explaining why the water board is in the position that it’s in now. And I think that was understood by both parties from Chickasaw and Prichard. So, I think that was helpful... And they really detailed and outlined what steps are going to need to be taken to get it to the point where it can be rectified,” said Kirk Callahan, Chickasaw resident.
