In a message to frequent flyers overnight, the chief executive said: “our pilots take a conservative approach when issues do occur because that’s how we train them”.In late January, a Qantas Auckland-Sydney flight issued a rare mayday call over the Tasman Sea after one of the Boeing 737’s two engines failed.
“Qantas has now been the most on-time major domestic airline for five months in a row,” Mr Joyce said in his message. “Our baggage handling, cancellation rates, catering service and contact centre response times are similar or better than pre-COVID-19.” “We’re working hard to make things better still. Across the group we’re expecting 11 new aircraft this year alone as part of ongoing fleet renewal, and in the months ahead we have some exciting announcements on lounges, destinations, and frequent flyer developments.”
