The airline says, while the credits must still be redeemed before December 31, customers can now use them to book flights out to the end of 2024.
Qantas is warning customers they must redeem the nearly $800 million in travel credits accrued in the pandemic before the end of the year, or face losing their claims entirely, but has extended the period in which these vouchers can be applied for a further 12 months.
“We literally had millions of bookings that were cancelled during several waves of lockdowns and border closures. No airline had systems that were designed to manage that in a seamless way, and we realise there’s been frustration for some customers as a result,” Mr Svensson said.Bloomberg Qantas said the broad majority of the unredeemed credits were worth less than $500. A quarter of the outstanding credits were worth between $500 and $5000, while under 1 per cent of the remaining vouchers were worth more. While acknowledging travellers had been “frustrated” by the redemption process, Mr Svensson said a “huge amount of effort has gone into making it easier to use your credit”.
