What does it take to be a beauty queen?
- This weekend, women from across Massachusetts will compete for the chance to represent the state in the Miss USA pageant.
History shows that beauty pageants first began as a way to increase tourism, and sell merchandise, but that was 89 years ago.So, why do women compete in pageants today? NECN set out to find out -- and spoke with contestants Sola Okenla and Amanda Matthews.
