A steady stream of grief stricken mourners continue to lay tributes at the scene of the stabbing in Southport that saw two children killed yesterday. A tight-knit community has been left shaken to its core.

Recalling what unfolded, she said: “There was one lady, a mother, and her face was heartbreaking. I just put my hands on her and she looked at my badge. It was awful."
The 70-year-old said: “My grandaughter is nine and a Swiftie. Her mum was going to book a ticket for her but then they forgot about it. I could have taken her.” Among those paying their respects at the scene this morning was a 21-year-old man studying to be a teaching assistant. He said: “I work with children all the time and this for something like this to happen is your worst nightmare. I haven’t got any words to describe the shock.
