BBC Radio 1 star Gemma Cairney has announced the birth of her first child with partner Cameron McAllister in a sweet Instagram post featuring a photo of the new family
BBC radio DJ Gemma Cairney has announced the arrival of her first child with partner Cameron McAllister in a sweet Instagram post on Friday 23 August. The 39 year old star who presents on Radio 1 and Radio 6 Music shared a photo of the couple at home with their newborn baby. Gemma captioned the photo with the words: “TWO WEEKS of the best madness, blessings, bliss, breathes, prayers, tears & momentous delirium.
She continued: “Never felt love like this. We are a fresh fan of 3, yipeeeeeee.
Gemma had been sharing updates with her fans on her pregnancy over the last few months, including photos featuring her growing baby bump, one of which she captioned: “Our bodies are outstanding ya know, I’m rollin’ in awe of mine and yours.” Gemma began her career as an assistant fashion stylist in the music industry, before training in radio broadcasting. Her first job was working for Channel 4’s 4Radio, and then she landed the role of co-presenter on Big Brother’s Big Ears in 2008, alongside Iain Lee. The Birmingham-born presenter also worked on KISS FM before moving to the BBC, where she became a regular DJ in 2014.
In an interview with the Guardian, Gemma reflected on her success. “I still can’t believe I was only 23 when I got my first radio gig, co-hosting the Breakfast Show on BBC Radio 1Xtra,” she said. “I was like an excitable puppy, giggling and overwhelmed. I’d found a craft to learn, which wove together drama school, fashion, music, the art I’d been creating. I’m so excited to know I never have to stop learning. I’m like a slightly older Dora the Explorer: curious and wide-eyed about the future.
