Zoe Ball was replaced on her Radio 2 Breakfast Show this morning by Scott Mills - who told listeners not to 'freak out' as he took over the mic.
Radio 2's Breakfast Show listeners were in for a surprise this morning as they woke up to an unexpected voice."Good Morning. You weren't expecting me were you? Welcome to Monday. It's Scott Mills," he greeted the audience.
Zoe, 53, also unexpectedly missed Friday's show - despite having told her social media followers the night before, "See you at dawn". Instead, Radio 2 fans tuning in were greeted by Gaby Roslin. Her return coincided shortly with a poignant memory she shared online, noting that it was her late mother's 'heavenly' birthday, marking the first without her since her passing in April; Zoe confessed they were all "bereft" losing her mum Julia.
Announcing her mother's passing on social media with the heartfelt words "Sleep tight dear Mama," alongside a photo of her mum in younger years, Zoe continued: "Thank you for teaching us how to love unconditionally, to always show courage and empathy, and how, even in the darkest of days, laughter is the greatest of gifts. We are bereft without you but will hold so tight to each other.
"Today I say goodbye to Granny J, thank you for being a wonderful woman," the 23-year-old expressed, posting an old picture with his grandmother. He went on to remember his late grandfather Rick Peckham, remarking: "The only person who always sent me a valentines card. I know you're with Rick now, give him a hug from me."
