The operator was forced to issue a 'do not travel' notice on Bank Holiday Sunday
There was bad news for anyone hoping to get from Greater Manchester to the Northern seaside resorts of Blackpool and Southport on the recent August Bank Holiday weekend.
A spokesperson for Northern said: “Our customers have experienced higher levels of cancellations in recent weeks and for that we are sorry. It's understood the issue of cancellations is particularly bad in the North West and has got worse over the summer due to difficulties in persuading drivers and conductors to work.
But during the public part, chief operating officer Matt Rice conceded the issue of weekend cancellations means "our underlying offer is poor at the moment".
