Leicester City are also admirers of the Egyptian who shone at the Olympics
Sources in Cairo claim the Ibrox club are keen on the Pyramids FC winger after being wowed by his Olympic efforts in Paris this summer. But Record Sport has been told the Light Blues will have to act quick if they want to land the 23-year-old attacker ahead of Friday’s transfer deadline, with Premier League new boys Ipswich and Leicester also mulling a move.
Adel’s preference is a dream move to the English top flight but he hasn’t ruled out the possibility of using Ibrox as a stepping stone first. Rangers insiders insists they have not made an official approach for the player – but his representatives are bracing themselves for negotiations as the seconds tick down to the end of the summer window.
Adel was the standout performer for Egypt at this summer’s Games in France. He scored both goals against eventual gold-medal winners Spain in the Pharaohs’ 2-1 group stage win. He led his nation to the semi-final and within touching distance of a podium place. Philippe Clement is keen to add to his attacking options ahead of Sunday’s opening Old Firm clash of the new campaign. He’s lost the services of Abdallah Sima and Kemar Roofe from last season’s squad and is sweating on Oscar Cortes’ fitness ahead of the trip to Parkhead.
Ianis Hagi and Todd Cantwell have also been frozen out of the Belgian’s first-team squad having been put on the transfer list. Adel’s name is the latest to be linked with a switch to Glasgow, with Norwich City winger Abu Kamara, Benfica attacker Tiago Gouveia and Fiorentina's Josip Brekalo also on the list of targets being considered by Clement and his recruitment chief Nils Koppen.
