The Matildas are flying on-field and it’s translating off-field with a large audience of fans in Australia breaking the free-to-air ratings record for 2023.
The Matildas Round of 16 match in the FIFA Women’s World Cup raked in 2.294 million viewers on Channel Seven on Monday night, toppling another major sporting event in the State of Origin opener on Channel Nine in June.
The main demographic tuning into the match was aged 25-54, with about 944,000 while the age group of 18-49 had about 831,000 viewers. The record-breaking audience witnessed a glorious night for the Women’s National Team as they navigated their way past Denmark and into the quarter-finals for the first time since the 2015 World Cup.
