Apology issued by organisers as Red Arrows say conditions 'unsuitable'
The Red Arrows' display at Southport Air Show was cancelled in a "massive disappointment" for visitors.
The aerobatics display team were due to perform at noon today as the air show gets under way in the resort town. Conditions were described as "unsuitable" for close formation display flying An announcement over the event's PA system broke the news to guests, apologising for the "massive disappointment" the cancellation will cause. It is understood the Red Arrows are still set to perform a fly-past later today but will be unable to perform their much-anticipated display.
The Red Arrows had been spotted over parts of the region yesterday as they flew from their base at RAF Waddingham to Blackpool Airport yesterday. Over the next two days, the event's schedule includes the BBMF Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane, RAF Typhoon, Slingsby T-67 Firefly and Spitfire - Rolls Royce.
