Dumfries and Galloway is one of the least expensive places to buy a home in Scotland
The average home in Dumfries and Galloway cost £163,039 in the 12 months to August, according to new data from the Land Registry.Meanwhile, the average home in Scotland cost £194,156 in the 12 months to August – £31,117 more than the average property in the region.The only cheaper places to buy a house in the country, on average, are: Renfrewshire , Dundee , City of Aberdeen , North Lanarkshire , West Dunbartonshire , Inverclyde , North Ayrshire and East Ayrshire .
Meanwhile, the top five regions for most expensive house prices are: East Lothian , Edinburgh , East Renfrewshire , East Dunbartonshire , and Stirling .East Lothian has seen the largest year-on-year rise of any local authority in the UK. The average home there sold for 15.4 per cent more in the 12 months to August compared to the previous year.
In Rutland houses sold for 13.3 per cent more, while in Harborough they cost 12.2 per cent more, in Na h-Eileanan Siar 11.8 per cent more, and in Newcastle upon Tyne 8.2 per cent more. Hastings and the London borough of Kensington and Chelsea saw the largest price drops, with homes in both local authorities falling by 10.4 per cent in the 12 months to August, according to the Land Registry data.
