Darwen residents 'asked if they can foot £200k bill' for huge four-metre-deep 'sinkhole'
Those living on Clough Street in Darwen have noticed a significant 'sinkhole' appear down the end of their street. According to one resident, Thomas Bailey, the hole appears to be getting "bigger and bigger" with no plans to fill it in.
He added: "What what I can see now, the ground underneath the wall that is there, to the left now has given way, which is quite new. It seems to be that that whole section could fall into the hole any day. According to the locals, the river has been temporarily re-routed because of the issue, causing concern. Thomas continued: "All the residents are very worried that they will just permanently close of this section of river, leaving us with a bog in front of our homes."
"It's been horrid since they closed it off." Shockingly, the Darwen resident also stated that a neighbour was asked if they could afford to pay to afford it.
