A new report reveals that retail crime in the UK is at an all-time high, with over 2,000 incidents daily, including threats, assaults, and theft. Staff are facing triple the abuse compared to a few years ago. The British Retail Consortium (BRC) survey highlights the alarming escalation of crime, urging for collaborative action between the government, police and retailers to address the issue.
Retail crime is "spiralling out of control", with shoplifting at record levels and staff threatened and abused at triple the rates of a few years ago, a report has found. Over 2,000 incidents of retail crime a day take place, including racial and sexual abuse, physical assault and threats with weapons, the British Retail Consortium Annual Crime Survey shows.
" Usdaw general secretary Paddy Lillis said: "The scale of the epidemic of retail crime is laid bare in this shocking BRC report."Crime has a very direct impact on the viability of stores, as retailers go to increasing lengths and expense to make them secure and safe.
