Rio Ferdinand won six Premier League titles under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United but has named a different coach as the best he ever worked under
Manchester United icon Rio Ferdinand has named Glenn Hoddle as the best coach he worked with on the training pitch – not Sir Alex Ferguson .
Speaking about Hoddle on his Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, the ex-United defender said: "In training, he was the best coach I ever had. The detail was mesmerising. He'd set you up to do this, that and the other because we were trying to get in behind that right-back who's not a great defender. We're going to set the play up and do training sessions to exploit that.
Hoddle handed Ferdinand his England bow as a youngster and included him in the 1998 World Cup squad. He may have only earned five caps under the ex-Chelsea boss but their time together clearly left a lasting impression on Ferdinand, who compared Hoddle's hands-on coaching with Ferguson's different approach to management.
