The Prime Minister is understood to have been blindsided by the furious backlash to his plans
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is understood to have been upset with his team for failing to predict the HS2 backlash high speed rail link beyond Birmingham
The decision has been condemned by many within his own party, not least Tory West Midlands Mayor Andy Street, who has warned the move will damage the UK’s reputation internationally. But sources close to Mr Sunak dismissed claims that he was angry with his inner circle, insisting the Prime Minister is “supremely relaxed” over how HS2 has been handled during the conference.
