🔴 Rishi Sunak is poised to U-turn on his promise to ban onshore wind amid a growing rebellion of Conservative MPs, Grant Shapps has suggested

, which would allow wind farms in rural areas where there is local consent, to the Levelling Up Bill.But it comes after Mr Sunak in the summer Tory leadership campaign pledged to scrap plans to relax the ban on onshore wind. Mr Shapps told Times Radio that the effect of Mr Clarke’s amendment was “actually exactly what Rishi said when he last spoke on it, and indeed what I’ve said on it in the past”.“You need local consent if you’re going to have wind power onshore, because it can be quite a big imposition on the local environment.”
Reports over the weekend suggested there was a Cabinet split over the issue, with Levelling Up Secretary Michael Gove, who is in charge of the Bill, also backing an end to the moratorium on onshore wind.
