The Northern Ireland golfer had to be held back before being bundled into a car by teammate Shane Lowry
Rory McIlroy had to be held back during a furious bust-up in the car park at Marco Simone Golf and Country Club on Saturday evening.
It was a tense finish that threatened to boil over when McIlroy confronted Cantlay's caddie Joe LaCava on the 18th green over some of the celebrations.McIlroy was irked that LaCava had trampled on the line of his own putt as he celebrated Cantlay sinking what turned out to be a match-winning 30-footer.Those tensions appeared to roll over to the car park as McIlroy was seen shouting and gesturing at someone while leaving the course.
BBC Northern Ireland sports presenter Stephen Watson said on X: "Luke Donald clarifies in his press conference that Rory McIlroy asked caddy Joe LaCava to move out of the way on 18. He didn't move and kept waving his hat, and Rory was not happy about that. Spilled over into the car park."
