Golf superstar Rory McIlroy's plans to add a heated outdoor pool to his luxurious Surrey estate have hit a snag due to local council regulations surrounding green belt development.
Rory McIlroy has encountered difficulties with local council officials in England concerning his plans to install a heating system for an outdoor pool at his luxurious multi-million pound estate. The renowned four-time major champion's opulent residence includes an indoor pool and spa, gym, cinema, and a spacious entertainment room. Adjacent to his home lies the world-famous Wentworth golf course, providing Rory with a convenient opportunity to refine his golfing skills.
However, despite the existing luxury of Rory's home, after investing over £10 million in the property, the famous golfer seeks further enhancements. McIlroy is reportedly considering an addition to his residence, featuring a heated outdoor swimming pool with a terrace, plant room, and sophisticated lighting, all powered by an eco-friendly air source heat pump, according to the Irish Mirror. Situated in the affluent Wentworth area in Surrey, the property already incorporates five such pumps. The 35-year-old sports star has characterized his proposed improvements as modest and emphasized, given the property's location within a designated green belt zone, that this represents a 'very special circumstance.' Council guidelines reportedly state that 'when located in the green belt, elements of many renewable energy projects will comprise inappropriate development.' It further indicates that 'In such cases, developers will need to demonstrate very special circumstances if projects are to proceed.' To support the necessity for the new heat pump, McIlroy's planning representative stated: 'The heat pump requires permission in view of the fact that the site already has heat pumps located towards the northern boundary.'
