Rossendale petrol station to demolish terraced homes for new electric charge points
Upgrades to a Rossendale petrol station and SPAR shop site, where three old terraced buildings will be demolished including a former chip shop, will not lead to any loss of local housing, councillors have been assured.

Business rates records indicate that 97 and 99 are rated as a shop and premises. Number 99 appears to have been a fish-and-chip shop. Council tax records show number 97 also has a residential use. There are no records for number 101.
“The plans have been developed with Rossendale Council officers and are a much improved scheme. There will be a low wall with a planting, which will grow to a height and soften the appearance of the site, enhancing it. There will be two electric vehicle charging points and better access to the SPAR shop.
Ms Smith said the number of car parking space would be fairly similar and agreed that improving the petrol station site’s appearance was an important factor. Labour Coun Liz McInnes said: “There’s quite an ugly MOT garage. Will that be improved?”Conservative Coun Alan Woods asked planning officers: “Quite a few concerns have been raised about safety.
Demolition of the terraced buildings was queried by Coun McInnes. She said: “I was concerned about the loss of three properties. One is a residential flat but none are occupied at this time. One used to be a good chippy. Can officers confirm that we are not losing housing stock?”
