A man has appeared in court charged with trying to set fire to a hotel which was housing asylum seekers in Rotherham.
He did not plead to the charges of arson with intent to endanger life and violent disorder, and his case was sent to Sheffield Crown Court for a hearing on 20 August.More than 50 police officers were injured when unrest broke out at the Holiday Inn Express in Manvers, a hotel believed to have been housing around 200 asylum seekers.
He is alleged to have "rocked" a police CCTV van, with the operator inside "fearing for his life" before trying to drive away, Mr Walton said.He was remanded into custody ahead of a sentencing hearing at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday.
